The Agricultural University of Vienna – also known by the abbreviation “BOKU” – was originally founded in 1872 as an agricultural and forestry university. Today, the field of study covers a unique scientific spectrum, from agricultural problems to biotechnological research. Based on the mantra of being the “University of Life”, BOKU aims to assume a special social and political responsibility. Its core competence is the research and communication of potential sustainability solutions and the conservation of natural resources. Ultimately, BOKU provides answers to issues of socio-political significance that affect us all.
ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System): AKTS (Avrupa Kredi Transfer Sistemi)
UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION (BACHELORSTUDIUM)
In its work, BOKU combines natural sciences, technology and engineering, as well as law, social sciences and economics to promote the sustainable use of resources. We face numerous challenges: climate crisis, population growth, increasing land and resource consumption, biodiversity crisis, environmental and nature destruction. As a pioneer in interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and teaching, BOKU educates people who help solve these challenges. In addition to course content, social interaction and practical relevance are also very important at BOKU – this also includes a personal mentoring relationship and numerous opportunities to apply the knowledge gained in projects, internships or field trials. A semester abroad at one of the many partner universities is also possible.
